Distracted driver involved in 2014 crash to serve jail term

The distracted driver who caused a fatal Fond du Lac accident in 2014 recently appeared in court to give testimony before beginning her jail term, a report of Fond du Lac Reporter stated on June 25.

Reports said 27-year-old Heather Cleveland will begin her sentence of three years in jail and two years probation after being found liable for the 2014 accident that killed Linda Trotter. According to a court hearing last March, Cleveland was sending a text message while behind the wheel on State 23 when she rear-ended a truck that was stopped at a traffic light. The collision sent the truck to the other side of the road and in front of Trotter’s vehicle. Trotter, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Reports revealed Cleveland made no attempt to avoid the crash and was speeding when she crashed. After she testified, Cleveland expressed to Trotter’s family how she was affected by the incident.
