Millions of GM trucks with potentially defective seatbelts recalled

A seat belt problem prompted American automaker giant, General Motors (GM), to issue a voluntary recall to approximately 1.04 million vehicles in the U.S. and in other countries, a report of CNBC stated on April 15.

Reports revealed that the seat belts in the 2014 and 2015 models of GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado may detach if the flexible steel cable is worn through with everyday use. GM explained that they discovered the problem through data gathered from warranty claims. Incidents of accidents or injuries were not reported before GM issued the recall. A total of 895,232 of the affected vehicles reportedly were in the U.S. and an estimated 142,000 vehicles were sold in other countries. GM is expected to address the issue by enhancing or replacing the tensioner assembly of the recalled pickup trucks.
