Federal oversight committee pressures GM to notify consumers of recall

On March 27 a Senator ordered General Motors (GM) to immediately issue stronger warnings to consumers about the recalled vehicles.

Senator Richard Blumenthal wrote a letter to GM’s CEO, Mary Barra suggesting that she strengthen efforts to warn consumers about recalled GM vehicles. A large portion of the recall affects cars with defective ignition switches.

In order to avoid ignition switch problems, GM engineers suggest not attaching additional keys and accessories to on the car key ring. If the vehicle should malfunction because of the defective ignition switches, the car’s power system could be compromised, along with the safety features.
