NHTSA to investigate Tesla for car fires

An official investigation was ordered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to examine the safety of the Tesla Model S electric car after some of the vehicles recently caught fire.

The investigation was prompted after three Tesla vehicles caught fire in different states. Reports said two of the car fires occurred when the vehicles’ undercarriage struck an object on the road which, in turn, damaged the battery. The other fire occurred after a car crash.

Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of the car fires. The NHTSA mentioned that all of the involved vehicles were equipped with warning devices that prompted the occupants to escape.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that he had no plans to recall the vehicles for their safety.
