New charges filed against Antigo Man guilty of girlfriend’s death

An amended criminal complaint was filed against a pickup truck driver responsible for the death his 27-year-old girlfriend, who fell out of the passenger door of the vehicle he was driving.

Online court records show that Brandon Bender of Antigo, also 27 years of age, faces new criminal charges after being charged by Marathon County prosecutors on Thursday, May 3, with a felony of second-degree reckless safety endangerment in addition to a previous misdemeanor charge of driving while under the influence of a controlled substance.

His girlfriend, Catherine Borchardt, succumbed to severe head trauma from her injuries in the April 7 accident that occurred in Elderon.

Bender told investigators that he had been drinking and smoked marijuana during a party which the couple attended the night before the accident.
