Study released shows Wisconsin ranks 7th in vehicle-deer collisions

A new study was released by State Farm insurance that compiles the number of accidents that occur in the U.S. between deer and vehicles in each state. It was then found that the state of Wisconsin ranks number 7 on the list with nearly one out of every 78.7 motorists colliding with deer while driving each year.

According to insurance claims data as well statistics from the Federal Highway Administration, the state ranked number one for the sixth year in a row is West Virginia. Projections show that nearly one out of every 40 drivers are involved in deer-vehicle collisions.

The state with the lowest numbers of deer accidents is Hawaii. Officials with State Farm and FHWA are reminding drivers to pay careful attention to the roadway in November, because deer and car accidents are most likely to occur during this month. Other helpful tips include, driving with high beams on in order to light up the roadway and to make sure that it is known that deer typically travel in herds.
