Teen drunk driving rate cut in half over past two decades

The teenage drinking and driving rate has been cut in half over the past two decades, according to a study released by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The study collected data from thousands of high school-aged teenagers across 41 states in the U.S. Public health officials working on the study discovered that only 10.3% of teenagers admitted to drinking and driving in 2011 as compared to 22.3% in 1991. This represents a decrease of about 54%.

Officials have stated that these numbers are a good start, but there is still a long way to go. Nearly 1 million teens in America admitted to consuming alcohol before getting behind the wheel sometime within the past year.
