Police target impaired drivers over holiday weekend

Police officials in the Midwest states of Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio held a drunk driving campaign in order to combat the number of impaired drivers that are take to the road on the Fourth of July holiday.

According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the number of fatal crashes during the 4th of July holiday period in 2010 was at 392.

This number was dramatically affected if a driver was impaired by alcohol. Law enforcement officials held the campaign until July 6 and have not yet calculated any statistics from this year’s efforts.
