Tire pressure may have link to car accidents

A study done by researchers with the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration has found low tire pressure may cause an increased risk of car crashes related to tire issues.

The study shows that tires that are underinflated by more than 25 percent the recommended level are three times more likely to be involved in an accident than tires that have the proper pressure levels.

This and other reasons are why monthly tire maintenance and pressure checks are very important. As of 2008, it became a requirement to install tire pressure monitoring systems into cars and this informs drivers whenever their tire pressure goes below the recommended levels.
