Cinco de Mayo DUI checkpoints take place across the nation

With Cinco de Mayo falling on a weekend this year for the first time in five years, law enforcement officials will be setting up DUI checkpoints across the nation in order to stop people from drunk driving after celebrating the holiday.

Many states will begin the additional patrolling on Friday and continue through the weekend. Eleven states, which do not allow for DUI checkpoints due to the legal limits in the area, will be offering mobile DUI patrolling.

Police officers will be able to get on a motorcycle and look into the driver’s window in order to determine if the person behind the wheel is showing signs of impairment. States that do have DUI checkpoints must make sure to give a warning to drivers in the area so that they are prepared for the stop and must follow other guidelines.
