Study suggests fatal car crashes increase on Tax Day

A study recently released by a team of researchers analyzed the number of car accidents that occur on Tax Day each year and found that the number of fatal crashes on Tax Day is at least 6 percent higher than any other day in the month of April.

According to data in the study, the number of fatal car crashes that have occurred on Tax Day in the past 30 years is at 6,783. This averages to nearly 226 fatal accidents each Tax Day.

When looking into another week day just one week before Tax Day, the number is at 213. Researchers have suggested that this may be because drivers are racing to get to the post office in order to beat the deadline or may be under more stress because of the day, which causes them to driver more erratically.
