Woman Charged in Racine Drunk Driving Accident

A Mount Pleasant woman was charged Thursday with a Racine drunk driving accident that injured several people.

According to officials with the Racine Police Department, 48 year-old Teri J. Chanlynn, of Mount Pleasant, is facing eight criminal charges, including intoxicated use of a vehicle causing great bodily harm, causing injury while intoxicated, and first offense operating while intoxicated causing injury. If convicted, Chanlynn faces up to 34 years in prison.

According to the accident report, Racine police were called to a head-on collision in the 2700 block of South Memorial Drive shortly after 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Witnesses told Police that Chanlynn was driving southbound on South Memorial Drive when she crossed the center line and struck a northbound van.

Police on the scene detected the smell of intoxicants on Chanlynn and administered a field sobriety test, which she failed.

The driver of the van and three passengers were injured in the accident. All four victims were transported by Flight For Life to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa for treatment.
