Former MPD Lieutenant Dies in Racine Auto Accident

A former Milwaukee police lieutenant was killed in a Racine car accident Sunday.

According to a statement from the Twin Lakes Police Department in Kenosha County, 46 year-old John J. Andrews, of Waterford, worked for the Milwaukee Police Department for 25 years before retiring in 2008. Andrews was working as a lieutenant and investigator for the Big Bend Police Department in Waukesha at the time of his death, the statement said.

According to the accident report, the crash occurred shortly before 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Highway 83. Police say Waterford’s vehicle failed to negotiate a sharp curve in the roadway about one mile south of Highway L. The vehicle went off the road, struck a tree, and burst into flames, police said.

Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time.
