2 Injured in Racine Crash

Two people were injured in a Racine car accident Monday night, police said.

According to officials with the Racine Police Department, officers responded two a two-vehicle accident in the 3400 block of Douglas Avenue shortly before 8:30 p.m. Monday near the Burger King. Lieutenant Carlos Lopez said both cars’ front ends were totaled in the crash.

One of the drivers, 18 year-old Matthew Mau, from Sturtevant, said he was traveling northbound on Douglas Avenue when a southbound car made an abrupt left turn onto Short Street in front of him. The impact sent Mau’s black Ford Thunderbird into a telephone pole.

Officials say Mau and the other driver each sustained moderate injuries in the crash. Rescue workers used hydraulic tools to extricate the drivers from their vehicles. The injured drivers were transported to Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Hospital for treatment.
