Police Provide Car Seats to Racine Families

In an effort to protect the children of Racine, the Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant police departments are giving away new car seats to families in need.

According to officials with the Mount Pleasant Police Department, a state grant has allowed the departments to give away nearly 180 infant and convertible car seats and booster seats to low income families around Racine. Authorities have contacted several social agencies, such as HALO, the Racine County Human Services Department, the Women’s Resource Center and Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints hospital, for referrals of low income families.

Sergeant Joe Macareno of the Mount Pleasant Police Department said a car seat technician will be available to meet with families and properly install the car seats. “The majority [of car seats] are not installed properly,” Macareno said. “It’s not uncommon.”
