An 86 year-old woman killed in a Racine car accident was identified Thursday as Mary A. Chaniga.

According to officials with the Racine Police Department, the crash occurred shortly after 12:00 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Kinzie and Perry avenues. Police say Chaniga was traveling northbound on Perry in a 1989 Oldsmobile when the accident happened. Chaniga had stopped for a stop sign and began moving into the intersection where it was struck by an 2002 Chevy pickup truck traveling east.

Chaniga was transported to a local hospital following the crash where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck, a 39 year-old man from Racine, was treated for injuries at the hospital and released.

The crash remains under investigation.
