Man Killed in Racine Car Accident

A 39 year-old man was killed in a Racine car accident early this morning in the 300 block of Ohio Street, police say.

According to preliminary police reports, the unidentified man, a Racine resident, was traveling south on Ohio Street at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway, and struck a tree. Police say the man was driving a 1999 Chrysler 300.

According to officials with the Racine Police Department, the Chrysler struck the tree with considerable force and the vehicle caught fire. Police officers and Racine firefighters were called to the scene of the crash at 12:52 a.m. Firefighters extinguished the fire and extracted the man from his car. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene a short time after.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
