Intoxicated illegal immigrant arrested for fatal collision

A Burlington man is facing seven traffic violations and seven criminal charges after being arresting following a fatal drunk driving incident.

The man has been identified as a 38-year-old man who has had previous criminal charges pressed against him. As well as driving while intoxicated and driving on a suspended license, the man should not have been driving at all, according to the law, as he is also an illegal immigrant. Illegal immigrants are not supposed to be able to obtain driver’s licenses, much less get caught driving on a fake license that had additionally been suspended.

Police arrested the man after he fled the scene of the crash, as they found him trying to escape in a friend’s vehicle. Noticing the man with his friend in another vehicle, covered in blood and noticeably smelling of alcohol, they arrested him in connection with the death of a 45-year-old woman due to a car crash in the town of Paris, Wis.

The man had served previous jail time for battery, drug possession, and the obstruction of a law enforcement officer. Apparently, the Immigration Customs Enforcement officials who would have deported him after serving his sentence for these crimes were not informed of his illegal immigrant status. According to authorities, they have been notified. He will be deported, although after another jail sentence if he is found guilty.
