Elderly woman seriously injured

An 80-year-old woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Caledonia, Wis., authorities said. The woman was northbound in her car when she failed to yield, police said, and she collided with a semi tractor-trailer.

The woman was trapped in her car, authorities said, and rescue workers had to take off the door to extricate her. A helicopter was called, but the call was canceled when rescue workers removed her from the car and realized her injuries were not as severe as they thought. She was taken to the hospital with serious injures, police said. The 25-year-old driver of the semi was not injured in the accident, authorities said.
