Federal website launched to identify unrepaired recalled vehicles

A free online tool was recently launched by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that will let people identify unrepaired vehicles affected by a recall, the NHTSA reported on August 20.

By visiting safecar.gov/vinlookup, people will be provided with information of all vehicle brands affected by a recall that still needed repair. In order to get a vehicle’s recall status, consumers only need to enter its VIN, or the vehicle’s identification number usually found on the vehicle’s dashboard or on the door on the driver’s side.

In connection to the tool’s unveiling, the NHTSA mandated all vehicle manufacturers to update their own websites every week for safecar.gov to be the most accurate. The NHTSA argues that one reason for this new tool is that millions of vehicles are being recalled every year due to safety problems or the failure to meet federal safety standards.

The legal team of Habush Habush & Rottier S.C. believes that Racine drivers often have to suffer financial loss after being injured in accidents caused by auto defects of recalled vehicles. If you or a loved one experienced this, we may be able to help you recover your loss by pursuing damage claims from negligent companies.
